Summer Goals

This summer is going to be the longest of my life. Instead of wasting away the days sleeping in and moseying around struggling to decide what to do with my day, I thought that some structure may be in order. This will be the best summer of my life, and at least I will get some things accomplished!

  • Be fit. Cliche I know. Everyone always seems to have this goal in mind. This needs to become reality for me though. Freshman 15.. Cough cough. If I could work out everyday from here on out, I would be one happy girl.
  • Run an 8 minute mile. This doesn't seem very hard, especially for some people. But, it is for me. Running is my weakness. I'd say I am fairly athletic. The cardio just gets me. I've never ran a mile faster than 9 minutes and 40 seconds. Sad right? This corresponds with my first goal, so hopefully I will accomplish them hand in hand.
  • Volunteer. I usually volunteer at our local hospital during summers. I am going pre-med and would like something on my resume that actually shows my interest in doing so. However, my current volunteering job consists of nothing more than wheeling around elderly folks in the extended care unit, and also getting them the things they need. So, I want to do something that I can actually learn from. Some volunteer work that will actually mean more than just busy work.
  • Help my mom. Over the years in high school, I haven't helped my mom very much. She is single and works 8-5 everyday. After dinner is made and the house is cleaned, it doesn't leave her very much time for herself. I have lacked in supporting her because of my studies, work, and activities. Hopefully this summer I can make a difference in her life because of my slightly less busy schedule.
  • Get things done soon. I already have homework assigned. What other college student has homework before their freshman year even begins? Thank you Northwestern University. Only you would do that. Here I come essay on academic integrity, I will get you done soon.
  • Study. Okay so far this is sounding like the most boring summer planned out ever, but I promise it will get better! I want to study everyday. Especially chemistry and calculus. I don't care about anything else. I will probably be taking chemistry my freshman year, and it will be a godsend to get an A at a competitive school like NU where almost half of students are pre-med. Also, since it has been a year since I've done calculus, I am in major need of reviewing how to do everything.
  • Work my ass off. Hey, a girl needs money. I'm paying for college without my mom's help, so I need to work as much as possible. I work at a little restaurant that barely gets any business. Hopefully it will be a busy summer for them, or I'll be looking at a second job!
  •  Have fun with my friends. We are going on a trip to... drum roll please.. Holland, Michigan! Yes. It's not terribly far, but it's far enough to get away from this town and have a little fun! I am very excited, even if the destination sounds more like a retirement village.
  • Work on my wardrobe. I don't have much extra money. Somehow I will need to find a way to do this. I need to find my personal style. I am striving towards a more chic, grown-up, and professional look. I want to finally get rid of the last of my Hollister sweatshirts and AE tees. I'm over that. I want to be more sophisticated and cute. I am in college now!!
  • Expand my make-up collection. Mac mac mac, what else can I say? I also need to invest in nice brushes. They are expensive, so this may take a while.
  • Try something new. I don't know what yet, but I'd like to try a new hobby and pick something up.

That's all for now! I will probably add more. Right now, I'm going to go work out and pull some weeds outside!
